BAO Arrested in Massachusetts at Karen Reed Trial
April 22, 2025
On April 22, 2025 BAO aka Smurf Watch Transparency was arrested by Massachusetts state police while live streaming Day 1 of the Karen Reed Trial. Watch the Footage on YouTube

Officers Involved:
- Officer Mike Hardman
- Trooper
- Bike Cop

- 9:30 times stamp. Officer Mike is spotted between the cars apparently stalking Bao from across the road.

- 9:38 Mike barks orders at BAO to get back as he is in the middle of crossing the street.

- 9:40 Officer Mike directs him to stand over across the street by the man with the American flag perfectly placed for this operation.

- 9:53 From across the street standing where Mike directed him to be BAO asks him what's going on. Previously in the video BAO had mentioned he believed a press conference was going on but that the area would probably be restricted to the media. However Mike is an independent journalist covering this story meaning he should have the right as a citizen and journalist to record what is happening.

- 9:54 Mike yells at the state troopers to "deal with them" Mike's orders are rushed, hurried and impatient. He isn't taking adequate time to explain to BAO what's going on. Its clear BAO is trying to ascertain what is even happening and believes he is standing where he was directed to be by the man with the flag.

- 9:57 enter Bike Cop and Trooper to "deal with them"

- 10:06 Trooper and Bike Cop approach BAO. The Trooper is starting to talk with BAO.

- 10:13 Bike cop interrupts the Trooper while he's talking with BAO. BAO is trying to figure out what is even going on. He literally just got there. Bike cop asks him if he has another phone. Possibly using that as a means to fish for whether BAO has another phone, but also so he can share some information with BAO which just seems weird. BAO goes back to the Trooper and asks that they just explain to him verbally what's going on. BAO isn't interested in Bike Cop's QR codes.

- 10:32 The Trooper redirects BAO down the street claiming there are signs that say something about the buffer zone whatever that is or means and they never really explain this to BAO. Clearly he's pointing to somewhere BAO cannot see claiming there are signs, well its very possible to miss signs, people aren't paying attention to signs and things these days when they're walking down a sidewalk. Its very possible BAO didn't even cross paths with the sign he's talking about. Anyways the Trooper claims it is located at Old Fellows Hall.

- 10:39 Another trooper slurring his words and screeching approaches from the middle of the street while Mike stands at the crosswalk. The First Trooper is trying to explain some things to BAO. BAO hasn't been given direction on where to go.

- 10:43 Trooper says "you just got to move it along okay" as he side eyes Trooper 2 clearly apprehensive of his presence and his interrupting.

- 10:44 Trooper 2 is trying to talk with BAO now and Mike clearly agitated by this whole thing gets mad and angrily starts his squawking and belligerent shouting. While Trooper 2 is falsely accusing BAO of being the issue and says that he can "move". All this time they have not given BAO clear directions on where to move to and BAO isn't doing anything wrong. He's just trying to figure out what they want from him and where he can go. That's very obvious from the video.

- 10:49 Mike is Angry. He's agitated and he's belligerent and creating a disturbing presence where he's not needed. The two Troopers have the situation under control.

- 10:50 The First Trooper begins to guide BAO away possibly he senses Mike is losing his cool. Maybe Trooper 1 is trying to de-escallate a situation that doesn't need to be such a big fucking deal? or maybe I'm giving him too much credit.

- 10:54 Mike completely ignoring that BAO is still conversing with the First Trooper storms over and proceeds to attack and violate BAO's 1st Amendment right to record this interaction. BAO was never given clear instructions about where he was allowed to be. He was not given reasonable amount of time to leave and understand the situation. I don't believe that a reasonable person could say he was treated fairly in this situation and its really great that BAO recorded all of this for the world to see.

-
14:42 Next thing you Know BAO is seen arrested in the back of some kind of cage. He says he was slammed up against the metal van as he was walking away, that he hit his head and it hurts, and he is thirsty. He requests medical attention and claims that he is in shock, which his body might go into shock over the event as it all happened very fast and he wasn't doing anything that warranted this use of force or brutality. They retaliated against him for his First Amendment right to record and his right to record them in the course of their duties. Through all of this BAO maintains his innocence.
-
19:05 At about this time it can be heard "he's still live streaming shut his phone off" they're clearly upset about his recording their interaction because doing so is destroying their attempt to collude together to deprive him of his rights. He is being very unfairly treated.

-
20:02 This crooked Cop Mike Hardman again cries about how he's still livestreaming clearly butthurt that BAO is smart and has his phone locked. So Mike keeps digging himself into a hole. BAO is perplexed about why Mike is so concerned about his phone still live streaming. Clearly Mike has an issue with this livestream and It only leads one to ask why? Why is that Mike?
-
20:43 Mike has admitted that he's now tampering with BAO's phone trying to shut it off. BAO will tell him to stop tampering with his phone.
At this point Mike has really screwed himself. He's obviously tampered with his phone and is attempting to tamper with evidence in the unlawful assault and detention of BAO a journalist.

- 22:29 this trooper pops his head onto the live stream. to cover the camera.
There's a lot of video and I didn't watch all of it, but I broke down some of the main points with video. I stopped watching about 23:32 and there's a lot of people in the First Amendment Activism Groups who are making videos about this.
