/ sao7fl   I am calling on RJ Larizza, State Attorney for the 7th Judicial Circuit to immediately drop all charges against Danny Winklemann. I am also calling for SAO 7th to open a criminal investigation into the actions of Deputy Canaan of the St Johns County Sheriff’s Office.

On 2/17/25 at approximately 9:20pm a potential violent crime was committed against a senior citizen on the streets of St. Augustine, Florida. Senior Citizen Danny Winklemann was minding his own business while riding his bike home from the grocery store. Mr Winkleman had plans to fix himself something to eat after a long hard day and then simply go to bed. Deputy Austin Bryce Canaan of the St Johns County Sheriff’s Department observed Mr. Winklemann riding his bike without the required lights. Deputy Canaan conducted a traffic stop on Mr. Winklemann and after Mr. Winklemann allegedly did not stop quick enough for him Deputy Canaan immediately escalated a non criminal, non emergency situation into use of force and arrest.

After the arrest Deputy Canaan and his colleagues with the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office along with an Officer from the City of Saint Augustine Police Department laughed and high fived each other about the violent arrest of a peaceful senior citizen who was just trying to get home a fix himself something to eat.

If you find the actions of these Blue Line Heroes to be as egregious as I do please don't waste your time going to the St. John’s County Sheriff’s Offices Facebook page. Your time and efforts would be more effectively spent by peacefully and lawfully petitioning your grievances to the State Attorneys Office of the 7th Judicial Circuit.    / sao7fl
